Welcome!

We inaugurate this new space!

In this new section you will find a review of various works of special interest to the Claretian family.

Obispos de Canarias y Rubicón

CAZORLA LEÓN Santiago – SÁNCHEZ RODRÍGUEZ Julio, Obispos de Canarias y Rubicón, Eypasa Ed., Madrid 1997, 576 pp.

It is a monumental and exhaustive work, “carefully and admirably crafted” (p. 7), on this specific topic. From the first bishop, Alfonso de San Lúcar de Barrameda (1404-1417) to Ramón Echarren Ysturiz (1978-), with which the volume closes. As read in the “presentation”, this book “tells the story of a group of young Claretians in the Chinese province of Anhwei” (p. 5). Or, as D. González writes: “It is a story of the hopes and sufferings of a group of young missionaries, (more…)

– -, Excerpt from the process instituted against the priest Dr. Santiago López de San Roman, parish priest of Término de Nuestra Señora de Montserrate, Extramuros de La Habana, Madrid 1860, pp. 720.

This is a work addressed to Pope Pius IX (cf. pp. 3-6, 718-720), so that he may judge the case of the priest of Havana, Don Santiago López de San Román. It’s just an “excerpt”, but 720 pages long (!). (more…)

Memories of what the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was at the beginning of the century and the uses and customs of its inhabitants), Notes by Eduardo Benítez Inglott and Introduction by Francisco Morales Padrón, Ed. Del Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2008, 4th ed., pp. 201.

Perhaps more than one wonders what is the reason for a review of this book on the CESC website. Let us remember that Claret was preaching in the Canary Islands from February 1848 to May 1849. Although the period was brief – just over a year – he became very popular. (more…)

Misioneros Claretianos. Claves para leer la historia de la Congregación

Jesús ÁLVAREZ GÓMEZ, Misioneros Claretianos. Claves para leer la historia de la Congregación. (Claretian Missionaries. Keys to read the history of the Congregation), PCl, Madrid 2001, pp. 205.
